Poughkeepsie, NY.

I went to Poughkeepsie, NY for my cousin's wedding.
Before the celebrations, I walked over an old train bridge that had been converted into a walkway.
There was quite a view.

Vanderbilt Mansion

I was lucky to get in the last tour of the day. It ended just in time for us to catch the sun setting. The colors of the sunset contrasted beautifully with the dark, unlit mansion.

A Visit to Austin, Texas.

While I was visiting my parents in Houston, I made a trip to Austin to visit a friend and show a couple of my NY friends the town.
It was great fun. Wandering in the parks. Boot hunting. Antique shopping.

Pre-Halloween in Baltimore.

At 8AM or so, a few of us woke and went to a little Farmers' Market to pick up a bunch of warty pumpkins to decorate the Halloween party.
There were some beautiful vegetables and various plants there.
It was quite pleasant.

Brooklyn Adventure

I had an appointment in Fort Greene. It was such a beautiful day (and I didn't want to spend an hour or more on a subway... when it would take LESS than that to bicycle over!!)... so, I decided to bike there from Greenpoint. On my way back I biked by Williamsburg Bridge.
I love that bridge. The first place I ever enjoyed running on... Anywhere else I ran before this was boring... nothing to look at... flat... I miss being near that bridge.

That evening, I spent a bit of time in the park, McGolrick Park... Trying to get acquainted.

Driggs on Fire!

We were walking down Driggs Avenue to the L. I had mentioned I forgot my camera, and a few minutes later we noticed a smoking truck. We decided to stop and watch... joked about it bursting into flames, thinking it was just a little overheated...

little did we know...

A few seconds later flames started shooting out from under the hood! It really was on fire! One person went over to the Parking Lot Attendant Booth, where there were TWO employees who had NO idea what was happening in the lot!

Firemen arrived shortly after a passerby (NOT the employees, mind you...) reported the fire.

They smashed in the windows, tore off the hood, hosed everything down...

Wow, what a surprise the owner of that truck will get upon his/her return!

What a day to forget my camera! Good thing the mini one on my phone worked!

End of Summer Dance Party

I biked over to East River Park in Williamsburg to meet a friend. We witnessed the Dept. of Sanitation burning... or something else over there burning!

Later we walked over to McCarren Park to meet some other friends. On the way, we stopped at a few good shops...

First stop, a small used book/record shop on Wythe Avenue. I purchased a paperback of Moll Flanders for $1.

Afterward, we popped into this neat little scent shop called CB: I Hate Perfume... Lining the white square shelves were hundreds of little vials, all filled with unique blends of random scents... Leather, Burning Wood, some Apple blend, and so on. Scents that remind you of specific events in your life. Which is the point of this venture, I think. I loved it! If anyone is in the area, please (!!) make a visit to this place. It is fantastic!

Then we continued on to the Park...

After a lounge in the grass, the bunch of us meandered around the neighborhood for awhile, grabbing a drink at The Charleston on Bedford Avenue, then making our way over to Havemeyer Street.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Nha Toi, then decided to have an ending of the summer dance party at my vintage shop.
It was wonderful! Like having a dress-up party in a big walk-in costume closet! Actually, that is exactly what it was...
This was, by far, the most fun event to happen this summer.

Kate the Birthday Girl

On Sunday my friend Kate, a culinary student, came over and we made a delicious birthday dinner with my roommates.
It was filled with beautiful heirloom tomatoes from my roommates parent's garden, and an assortment of fresh vegetables.
I love the colors of fresh fruits and vegetables. Beautiful.

Mural & Beacon

I did a bit more work on that mural in my apartment.

And I went to Beacon, NY to visit some family. We spent some time outside playing ping pong. I thought it was great how the dog was watching everything so intently; sitting there on the towel, not even interested in chasing loose balls... I also found it interesting that he wasn't making a sound (he's usually extremely loud, barking all the time)... during this time he was so quite... Just watching.

Painting & Beach Time

The other night I was up all night painting a huge mural on my apartment wall. It is one of the best feelings. To be able to do that and not worry about getting in trouble for it.

On Saturday, I visited Rockaway Beach with some friends. That evening we relocated to my apartment to continue the festivities. What fun it is to share giant goblet of whiskey!

A Tree Fell Down in Brooklyn.

I was working in my little shop when I heard some commotion outside.
A huge tree fell down in the street! It knocked down a bike rider then fell on top of a car, trapping the driver in until it was removed.
It caused quite a commotion!

Mother Comes to Visit.

My Mother and her significant other came up from Houston, TX to visit me.
The S.O. had never toured NYC before so the three of us made a trip to Ellis Island then wandered around Manhattan the rest of the day.
It was an extremely hot day.

I love the look of this plaque. The type. The yellow showing through the cut-out letters. The oxidation.
It has aged well.
